Victims associated with the Annunciation Catholic School shooting were likely saved by a dedicated, well-trained trauma response and their proximity to Level 1 Trauma Medical Centers. In fact, the hospital where I work is just a few blocks away. Thus, should I require emergency medical care, my clinical outcome improves significantly. However, due to funding cuts from the ‘Big Beautiful Bill,’ the future is bleak for rural America.
While there isn’t a single national statistic that tells you “how many Level I trauma centers are in rural America, what we can say from the best available data is:

There are roughly 220 adult Level I trauma centers nationwide (2023 estimate). They are concentrated in metropolitan areas. Lippincott Journals

In other words, as the current administration focuses on healthcare cuts and HHS Secretary Kennedy populizes anti-vaccine propoganda, that ‘Big Beautifull Bill’ will close rural hospitals. I guess that’s what Jesus would do, right?
